Win a free pair of tickets to hear Joshua Nelson at Adath!

Adath has given TC Jewfolk two free pairs of tickets to raffle off to our lucky readers to hear Joshua Nelson perform at Adath on Saturday, November 7th. To win, between now and 12noon on Monday, November 2nd, go to the comments section of this blog post (or tweet us @TCJewfolk) and answer this question. What Hebrew song or prayer would you most like to hear Joshua Nelson sing, gospel style, during his performance at Adath? We’ll enter your name in our raffle (drawn randomly with the help of The Hat). One submission per person.

If you don’t win, tickets to the show are deliberately cheap ($10 for students/kids, $18 for the rest of us) because Adath wants a packed house when Nelson rocks the synagogue. Call Adath at 952-545-2424 to get your tickets.

Listen to Joshua Nelson rock it out in this video.

More about Joshua Nelson

Joshua Nelson has performed with musical legends including Wynton Marsalis, Aretha Franklin, Cab Calloway, Dizzie Gillespie, and The Klezmatics, and was profiled in the international award-winning documentary “Keep on Walking: Joshua Nelson: The Jewish Gospel Singer.” He has performed around the world, for presidents, prime ministers, and even on Oprah.

His family is from Senegal, Africa, and he grew up Orthodox, eating kosher collard greens (cooked in turkey, not pork) and mac and cheese (but never at the same time as a meat meal). He told the Miami Herald that he is a member of both a Reform and an Orthodox synagogue, and follows Orthodox laws although he identifies with the Reform movement. When he’s not touring, Nelson is a full-time Hebrew teacher at a Reform synagogue in South Orange, New Jersey.

See you at the show – look for me dancing in the pews.
