Jenna, this brings up memories even for "shiksa" me--of you singing over candles at our house, and of all those times in the city with Robert, Susan, cats, lights, winter, and the love of good friends that could always carry us through tough times. Most of all, it is your resilience, your willingness to feel what you feel, and to share that which makes me so glad to have known you then and to know you now!

Thank you, Galit and Irene. I love the idea of traveling menorahs and Shabbat candles and wasn't even aware of them until I was an adult. Maybe it wasn't around when I was a child - but I do so appreciate them now. And yes, the Hands are great for travel, too!

Jenna, I love this piece. It warms my heart how Hanukah candles brought all of you peace-- they do the same for me! I remember being a tad embarrassed of my traveling Shabbat kit, wondering what people thought, etc. in reality, everyone I was around smiled and wanted to join in (just like in your story). Thank you for the lovely story and the trip down memory lane!
