Happy Tu B’Av, the Jewish Love Day

2183538064 be93b1e8381 150x150 Happy Tu BAv, the Jewish Love DayLast night was the start of the Jewish holiday Tu B’Av (bet you’ve never heard of that one). Unlike the holidays coming up in the next two months, which involve a lot of time in synagogue, or fasting, or sitting outside in the cold Minnesota October in straw huts, this one is all about summer lovin’.

The blog Jewesses with Attitude (run by the Jewish Women’s Archive) described the holiday in a post today. My favorite quote:

Tu B’Av, on the other hand, celebrates a day in which women embraced their sexuality, actively expressed their desire, and perhaps most importantly, enjoyed themselves! Compared to Valentine’s Day – a “Hallmark holiday” loosely based on the story of St. Valentine (yawn) – Tu B’Av absolutely rocks!

Read the post yourself, and then go out and celebrate Jewish love day a bit tonight… It’s a mitzvah.
