Jew Wanna Go? | April 29 – May 5, 2015

Welcome to a new series we’re calling, “Jew Wanna Go?” Every Wednesday, Hal Senal will run down a list of upcoming events that you should know about. We’ve been getting requests from both organizations and individuals for more event coverage: what they are, where to find them, who they’re for, and more. We want to say, we’ve heard you! This is not meant to be exhaustive, or definitive; it’s definitely a work in progress, and we’ll always need your help in letting us know what we missed. So if there’s ever an event you think we missed, email [email protected] and let us know! You can also check out all the cool events happening this week and beyond on our calendar.

What’s in a Title?

facebook_event_1422042234767421The MN Jewish Theatre Co. will be continuing its run of Jericho through May 10 at Hillcrest Center Theater. The play, by Jack Canfora and directed by Warren C. Bowles, revolves around a group of young New Yawkers trying to make sense of their lives in the aftermath of 9/11. In other words, no, it’s not a loosely-based stage adaptation of CBS’s 2006 cult favorite series of the same name. What?! I can’t be the only person who got excited!

Comic “Heavyweight”

11038639_10204257592508700_7127595389712552196_nSome may remember comic actor Shaun Weiss as the smart-ass hockey player Goldberg from “The Mighty Ducks.” I’ll always remember him as the smart-ass camp-goer Josh Burnbalm in the 1995 Disney flick “Heavyweights,” or as the smart-ass high school student known simply as—wait for it!—Shaun on “Freaks and Geeks.” Clearly, this guy is a chameleon! Regardless, the dude and fellow MOT will be performing live, Apr. 30, at Billy’s on Grand in St. Paul at 7 p.m. The event is hosted by Temple of Aaron’s TAXY group for the 20’s and 30’s crowd. RSVP to [email protected].

Crucified

20150417__150420ae-revcrucibleGot a yen for witch hunts, hangings and all kinds of other nasty shenanigans, come to the Guthrie Theater as they continue their run of Arthur Miller’s feel-bad classic The Crucible. For ticket information, call 612.377.2224

Newbies
If you are the proud new owner of a brand spanking new kid (without the, um, spanking…because no one wants to see that—am I right?!), ya might wanna head over to the PJ Library in Minneapolis on May 3 for their Shalom Baby Shower event on Sunday, May 3, from 10 a.m.-11:30 a.m. The event will be held in the West End Community Room.

Kiddie Rides

On May 3, Aleph Preschool will be presenting Trucksploration in the Beth El Synagogue parking lot, located in St. Louis Park, at 11 a.m.-2 p.m. While all are welcome for food and fun, this imaginative introduction to big-wheeled machines is geared to teach young ones about various modes of transportation. Because that’s just what every mother wants for their children: To grow up to be a Jewish Trucker (?!)

Fiedler Under the Roof

Like sports?! Well, I don’t! I’m a tried and true geek and that’s why my wife married me (well, that and I made her laugh)! That being said, if you are a sports fan, you should probably head over to Temple of Aaron Student Football Clinic and get your photo taken with the former quarterback for the Minnesota Vikings and Miami Dolphins Jay Fiedler when he visits on May 3rd at 10:30am. A photo and autograph will cost ya $36 if you’re an adult and $15 if you’re 13 and under. GOOOOOAAALLL!! Wait. Is that not…? Aw, jeez! I told you I suck at sports!

Back Pocket (Or…Events to Come, but we’ll schmooze about them more later!)
