Job Summary/Description:

The Membership Sales Director is responsible for the planning, development and implementation of JCC membership sales and retention goals. This position is also responsible for community relations with local businesses and civic groups to promote the St. Paul JCC. The ideal candidate is a self-starter, able to work independently but also as a respectful, contributing member of a team. The position requires flexibility, responsiveness, great attention to detail, and sensitivity to the needs and viewpoints of diverse audiences and partners. This position reports to the Chief Advancement Officer.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

Strategy
• Work with the Chief Advancement Officer to set annual membership sales and retention goals
• Develop clear, consistent, and effective sales plans and strategies to meet established goals
• Work with marketing team to develop marketing strategies and collateral to assist with sales
• Create a set of Key Performance Indicators to measure and evaluate success (Tour to sale, calls to appointment, number of referrals per new adult member, etc.)
• Carry out competitor analysis on a regular basis

Membership Sales
• Develop prospects and generate leads for potential new members
• Train and ensure that all JCC staff are extensions of the membership office
• Identify opportunities and lead efforts to cross-sell throughout the agency
• Oversee the execution of the Fall and Winter membership campaigns
• Oversee the intake and administration of the Silver Sneakers, Silver and Fit Programs and other frequent fitness reimbursement plans
• Develop a corporate membership program to promote the JCC to local businesses- Work with the Chamber of Commerce and Highland District Council to promote the JCC; Organize special events and open houses to bring in prospective businesses/members
• Provide information to newcomers to the community via real estate agents, schools, etc.

Retention
• Oversee the membership renewal process
• Develop and maintain value-added member benefits for the JCC membership
• Coordinate membership appreciation programs and new member appreciation events
• Provide quality customer service to current and potential members and volunteers

Day-to-Day Operations
• Serve as the key staff person to provide tours of the facilities
• Ensure all prospective members receive appropriate membership information
• Follow-up with all prospective members within 48 hours of first contact.
• Recruit, hire, supervise and evaluate membership sales associates as needed
• Manage the membership departmental budget
• Prepare comprehensive and accurate monthly membership statistics
• Ensure administrative process is efficient and effective- membership paperwork is processed correctly and quickly; trouble shoot with accounts receivables: bank returns, collections, etc; assist with financial adjustments on members’ accounts and changes in member status
• Help identify and recruit potential benefactors and corporate sponsors.
• Serve as the contact person for requests for JCC information by local agencies and organizations
• Actively participate as a member of the JCC staff team: attend staff meetings; work collaboratively on agency projects and events; work as the evening OD (on-duty building supervisor) and Welcome Desk as assigned; Participate in major agency-wide events and functions

Experience and Qualification Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in related field preferred
• Proven sales experience, preferably in a membership sales capacity
• Outstanding people skills and ability to interact professionally with internal and external constituencies; members and staff of all ages and backgrounds
• Commitment to excellent customer service
• Strong written and oral communication skills
• Strong organizational and administrative skills
• Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office
• Computer experience with File Maker Pro or other membership database program
• Ability to produce excellent results with time and resource constraints
