Great post and something I've been thinking about since attending my cousins kids wedding, I mean Bar Mitzvah, in Queens last summer. Seriously, the Bar Mitzvah eclipsed any wedding I'd ever been too, with one exception, Texas.

Went to a Jewish wedding in Ft Worth years ago... City busses hired to take folks from the shul to the reception, city cops escorting the caravan, a two story hoopa made completely out of florals, professional dancers at the party to help loosen up the crowd.. and a sit meal for 500 of the couples closest friends and family.

Loved this, Jeff! Cracked up re: the salmon.

I think you described Minneapolis weddings well. My wedding was in Chicago on Michigan Ave and it probably fits somewhere between the NYC and Minneapolis types. There was NO question that the Minneapolis half of the guest list (my husband's family and his parents' friends) were better at knowing how to dance to a long hora (that's how we wanted it) and how to do some of the other more traditional Jewish stuff we included. The Chicago crew was much more removed from those aspects.

I've been to a NYC wedding at the Waldorf. I'll never forget the size of that table of sushi for as long as I live.
