madonna Pro Palestinian group asks Madonna to take a holiday and not perform in IsraelA small coalition of Jews, Palestinians and Israeli Arabs called “Boycott! Support the Palestinian BDS (Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions) Call from Within” are urging Madonna to cancel her September 1st and 2nd performances in Israel as a protest of Israel’s policies towards the Palestinians, according to the Jerusalem Post. The group has tried to Keep It Together after Leonard Cohen rejected a similar proposal to cancel his performance in Israel this coming September. Leonard Cohen has confirmed that he will be proceeding with his show as planned. Madonna’s production crew is already in Israel setting up for the shows, according to Haaretz.

Personally, I do not think the coalition has a Prayer. Madonna likes to Express Herself and does not seem to be the kind of superstar to cancel a performance due to a few protesters. This is a woman who is preceding her Israeli show by giving her children Something to Remember on a tour of Poland, including the gas chambers of Auschwitz, with the idea (similar to the March of the Living program) that understanding the devastation of the Holocaust helps to understand the importance of Israel’s existence.

If you want to thank the Material Girl for her support of Israel, check out her new greatest hits album, entitled “Celebration,” to be released on September 29th, just after we have celebrated the beginning of the Jewish new year. Coincidence? I think not.

  1. I love your blog. I just read that Madonna announced she is giving music a rest, saying she doesn’t have the “time or energy” to sing. Interesting! What do you think about that?
