There is something very satisfying about composting. You can see the progress. Turning off lights??? Not so much.

Great list!!! And I love how you present these ideas. Not all all-or-nothing proposition. So it's easy to take this on this mitzvah (shomeir/shomeret ha-adamah) in easy step.

Thanks!!!

Wonderful article, Galit!

Hip Mountain Mama, a family owned business committed to environmentally responsible living, started a little movement called "One Small Change" http://hipmountainmamablog.com/one-small-change/

"One Small Change" encourages families to make one small change each month this year until Earth day (January through April). The changes should have a positive impact on the environment, and families can commit to these changes for life.

The program encourages blogging about participation and the changes you make.

January isn't over yet; there's still time to squeeze in that little change for this month.

Here's a site to look at. Of course they mention turning off lights. As to being GREEN, it is necessary to reduce one's "carbon footprint". Thus if your project includes driving anywhere, you will have to overcome the negative impact of your use of a vehicle. So it will be important if you need to secure any items for your project that you try to accomplish that at the same time as you are running another necessary errand (and that the kids understand that). Another good thing would be to build up Earth Day.

Here's the site, before I forget! http://www.chiff.com/society/green-kids.htm

Love it! We recently went paper towel and napkin free and keep little cloths in a basket on the counter top instead. There's another basket on the floor for dirty ones. Also, worm composting is really fun and not gross at all. The kids might like "feeding the worms" with your dinner scraps (veg only). You can buy worm bins online and keep them in the garage or outside in warmer weather. It's self-contained and makes amazing compost for your garden. The worms are pretty cool too! You can also shred your old paper bills and junk mail and use it as bedding for the worms. Fun!!!
