Have I been excited about this book? Clearly. But now I’ve read it, and I feel comfortable reporting that it’s even better than I thought it would be. He’s a storyteller at heart, so the book reads like fiction, only the facts are so staggeringly obviously true that there’s no way he made this shit up — and I’ve covered PETA rallies, so it isn’t like I hadn’t heard some of the information before.

He isn’t extreme at any point in the book; it all comes across very even-handedly, and this is coming from a girl (me) who has, upon more than one occasion, touted the culinary virtues of bacon (well, maybe not here…). So convincing is he that I’ve taken up vegetarianism. OK, maybe there wasn’t one single thing that prompted my decision, but somewhere between reading about how turkeys can’t reproduce on their own anymore, attending the Hazon Food Conference, and thinking about my own health, I thought I’d give it a shot.

You want to read this book. You want to buy this book. You want to share this book with everyone you know. What you do with the information is up to you, but at least you’ll know it, and an informed decision is always preferable to blind acceptance. Plus, it’s chock full of fun trivia you can throw around at cocktail parties and impress friends and members of the opposite (or same!) sex!
