“A Serious Man” hits Minneapolis movie theaters

The long-awaited Coen Brothers movie “A Serious Man” comes out in theaters exclusively in Minneapolis, Los Angeles and New York tomorrow, Friday October 2nd. Don’t miss it. It’s Jewish. It’s Minnesota. It’s the Coen Brothers, our favorite local Jewish celebrities. It’s comedy (albeit with the Coen Brothers’ dark comic styling). Need I say more? Of course…

“A Serious Man” was filmed in locations all over the Twin Cities in 2008, with scenes shot at our favorite local hangouts like B’nai Emet synagoguein St. Louis Park (I hear that many of the congregants are extras), the Cooper’s SuperValu in St. Paul, Keys Cafe and Bakery in Roseville, and St. Olaf College in Northfield.

Watch the movie trailer. Check out the A Serious Man website. Read the local American Jewish World newspaper’s article about the movie. And then head to Landmark Theatres in Uptown as soon as you can to check it out. I’ll see you there.

Let us know what you think about the movie (and how Minnesota’s Jewish community comes across in the film) in the comments.

While this is a great Coen brothers movie, I believe that most of the country will NOT get it. It should play well in new york, LA, miami, chicago, and the twin cities, but it is definitely too jewish for the rest of the country.
