money 300x199 Want Extra Cash for School? Hit up the JCCThe Saint Paul Jewish Community Center wants you to finish college. And graduate school. And we all know that things are a bit tight money-wise right now for a lot of folks.

That’s why the Saint Paul JCC is offering  $1,500 – $2,000 tuition scholarships to college and graduate students whose families are members of the Saint Paul JCC. Applications are due March 12, 2010. Click here for the full application for the Saint Paul JCC’s “MARvelous Education Fund” scholarships. You can also pick up a copy at the JCC front desk.

The MARvelous Education Committee awards scholarships based on:

  • St. Paul JCC involvement
  • scholastic performance
  • financial need
  • funds available

Preference is given to individuals with a history of involvement at the St. Paul JCC, who demonstrate academic achievement and who have financial need. The MARvelous Education Committee has a very broad definition of financial need as the cost of post secondary education is very high. The committee considers a number of areas to determine financial need.

You might want to get started on this scholarship application right now, because there are a few things you’ll need to put together, including:

  1. The completed application form.
  2. High school transcript and complete college transcript, including the most recently completed semester (if you are currently attending college).
  3. Two letters of reference from a teacher, advisor, or clergy; not from friends or family members. Letters should address academic achievement and character. Each letter should be in 12-point font no longer than 2 pages.
  4. An essay that includes your educational goals, future plans, and St. Paul JCC involvement. Your essay should be in 12-point font and no longer than two pages.

Even if you have applied and gotten scholarship funds from the JCC in past years, you can still apply now. Thanks to the Farshts for establishing the MARvelous Education fund in 2003 in memory of their aunts and grandmother.
