What do you get when a straight white male discovers that his mother’s a lesbian? A hilarious and heartfelt true story that celebrates love in all its forms! The hit of the 2009 Toronto Fringe and the 2010 New York Musical Theater Festival, the musical My Mother’s Lesbian Jewish Wiccan Wedding, is making its next stop in St. Paul, Minnesota with an area premiere production at the Minnesota Jewish Theatre Company that will make you laugh, cry and realize that nothing’s impossible.
And of course, because we love you, TC Jewfolk is giving away a free pair of tickets to see the show, which runs from February 18 – March 11, 2012.
My Mother’s Lesbian Jewish Wiccan Wedding debuted at the Toronto Fringe, sold out, and was immediately picked up by Mirvish Productions. A critical and financial success, it was extended five times and played to well over 50,000 people. MMLJWW won Most Promising Musical, Best Book, Best Direction and an acting award in the 2010 New York Musical Theater Festival awards (the show won the most awards of one show at the festival) and was recently nominated for Best Comedic Play in the Canadian Comedy Awards.

What’s the Most Interesting thing you’ve ever seen at a Jewish wedding? And why? The men in the wedding party dressed in costumes with sparklers – which set off the fire alarms in the synagogue. Being that the synagogue was old – it didn’t have any sprinkler heads. The band was playing so loud – no one heard the fire alarms. The fire department showed up fully dressed in combat mode. After assessing the situation, the band played the Hora and the firemen all joined in and danced.
I saw a home-made hoopa covering which had the signatures of all the couples that had been married under it.
Bacon bits on the salad.
Caterer messed up big time.
When the wedding was stopped for 15 minutes in the middle, so that multiple rabbi’s could argue out some issue in the Ketubah before continuing. Truly made me see the “legal contract” aspect of a Jewish wedding, not just a “video perfect production”.
I don’t remember, because I’ve only been to one Jewish wedding when I was two years old. I’m sure it was very interesting though!
Not letting the groom’s lesbian sister bring a female friend to the wedding.
At my own Jewish wedding some 35 years ago I wore a pure white tuxedo. I was so skinny I was able to wear 28″ waist pant. I had a big 70′s hair and beard. Looking at that picture is pretty funny.

An old lady walked into a complex where there’s a lot of Jewish weddings happening and she sat at my table and it took her fifteen minutes to figure out she was at the wrong party.
Traditional English Morris dancers performing in full costumes with bells and sticks! Then the strolling Jewish accordion player continued with the classic Jewish tunes. It was a delightful blend of entertainment!
