Alef List: Hot Happenings 4 Hip Jews

With chanukkiot packed away and the Jewbilee becoming a distant memory, it’s that time of year when the calendar starts to get a little quiet (And really, thank goodness! Those dancing shoes sure did a number on these tootsies). The cold weather may tempt you to go into hibernation, but don’t let winter stand in the way of having some fun.

Here are my top picks for fun ways to stave off that sleepiness between now and Jan 11th.

Go check out hilarious Jewish author, columnist and comedian Steve Hofstetter at St. Paul’s Station 4. TC Jewfolk has secured a special $10 ticket price for our readers (without the discount, they’re $17). To get the discount, go to www.picksteve.com, register for a free account and use promo code “JewTen” to see Steve’s first ever Twin Cities’ show for only $10. With TV creds that include CBS’ “Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson,” E’s “True Hollywood Story,” Showtime’s “White Boyz in the Hood,” and VH1’s “The Countdown,” you know the show’s going to be good. And really, we can’t help but crack up at a guy who answers his own hatemail.

We can’t wait for the Minneapolis Jewish Film Festival to get rolling in April. Until then, satisfy your craving for some good Jewish film-making with a screening of Lonely Man of Faith at the Sabes JCC. The documentary tells the story of Rabbi Joseph B. Soloveitchik,  a seminal figure in Modern Orthodoxy. Sure, the film will probably require a bit more concentration than going to see Avatar at the local Imax, but hey – a little thinking never hurt anybody. Tickets are $6.

For those of you with kid-o’s…What better way to bring a little brightness into the dark days of winter than bundling the family up and heading over to the Shaller Family Shalom East Campus for an Intergenerational Community Event for Preschoolers & Families?! Wiggle, jiggle and jam with music specialist Wendy Baldinger from 6:15-7:30. The event is sure to spread a little joy to the tenants and residents of the Shaller Campus and families alike.
