Alef List: Party Like It's 5771

Sometimes you have to celebrate on the go.

If your calendar is anything like mine, it’s pretty booked for the next two weeks. Mine’s filled with holiday goodness – which, in my mind, also includes some not-so-traditional celebrating. Check out the calendar for a full listing of upcoming community events or scan below for the Alef List of Jew to-do’s in the next two weeks.
Here’s the Alef List for Sept 7th – 20th:
Still Looking for a place to celebrate the holidays? Check out this list of synagogues and independent minyans that would love to welcome students and young professionals, regardless of your financial situation. (And don’t forget to check out the comments on the page – additional invites are listed below).
Ready to rock in the new year? Jew Year’s Eve V, the fifth annual alternative Rosh Hashanah Celebration will take place on Saturday, 9/11 at the Kitty Cat Klub (near the U of M campus) at 9:00pm.  The 21+ show will feature local bands Days of Rae, The Cold Open, Matthew Levitt and Levittrio, and more! Tickets are only $5 and it’s bound to be a good time for all.
Need a good excuse to sing some karaoke? Sometimes I do too. Head to the Chatterbox Pub in Highland Park when Kosher Karaoke Goes Back to School Again on Wednesday, 9/15 with the Young Leadership of the UJFC of St. Paul. The party gets started at 8pm. Don’t forget to bring school supplies for the supply drive (no kids of your own yet? Think crayons, markers, glue, etc). The event is free and YL will pick up the tab on vegetarian apps (beer is on you).
Want to get one last drink in with friends before the BIG fast? Mpls Fed’s Young Leadership will be hosting their monthly Jews and Brews happy hour at Joe’s Garage in Loring Park on Thursday, 9/16. Head over after work (HH starts at 5:30) to shmooze and booze (responsibly, of course!) with other young professionals. Just make sure you hydrate on Friday before the fast starts.
