Rimon: The Minnesota Jewish Arts Council is pleased to announce a Call for Art associated with its May 6th Artist Salon, “A Delicate Balance: The Environment, Sustainability, & an Artist’s Voice.” There are three cash awards and an exhibition opportunity. The Delicate Balance will be held in collaboration with the Living Green Expo, May 5-6, 2012
CALL FOR ART
Care for the earth is a core Jewish cultural value grounded in Judaism’s texts and historical practice. It is interpreted with a new urgency in the 21st century. Visual artists of any background are invited to submit work that responds in an imaginative way to Jewish traditions (based in language, imagery, or praxis) of sustaining the environment.
SPECIFICATIONS
Media accepted: Artwork will be accepted in all visual media including drawing, painting, sculpture, ceramics, printmaking, photography, mixed media, and installation.
Selection Process: The exhibition will be juried by art critic Roslye Ultan. All applicants will receive notification by e-mail by April 6.
Exhibition dates: Living Green Expo (May 5-6); online exhibit (April 30-June 1)
Submission deadline: April 2, 2012, 4 p.m.
Venue: Living Green Expo, Minnesota State Fairgrounds; online exhibition, www.rimonMN.org
Awards: 1st prize: $500; 2nd prize $300; 3rd prize $200; Honorable Mention: online exhibition. The awarded artwork will be included in the Living Green Expo. Work needs to be ready for hanging or display; no saw tooth hangers. The prize recipients will be asked to participate in the Rimon Artist Salon, A Delicate Balance: The Environment, Sustainability, and an Artist’s Voice, on May 6, 2012, 1 p.m.
Requirements for Submission:

  1. Artist must be 18 years old or older and a resident of Minnesota.
  2. The work must be newly created or never before exhibited.
  3. Submit: a brief biography and exhibition record. Up to three images per submission. 50-word statement describing the relationship of each image to the exhibit’s themes.
  4. Images should be submitted digitally in JPEG files of 300 dpi, 1200 pixels or 5 inches on the longest side to [email protected] . For each work include your name, title of the work, date of completion, size (H” x W” x D”), medium, & any special installation needs. CD or DVD submissions will be accepted, when necessary, and should be sent to Rimon, Barry Family Campus, 4330 S. Cedar Lake Rd., Minneapolis, MN 55416. Postal submissions must be received by April 2, 4 p.m. (not a postmark deadline).

Sales: Works will be available for sale, if indicated, with a 20% commission reserved for Rimon.
