Job Summary/Description:

Bet Shalom Congregation is looking for an interim executive director to complete a number of discrete projects as well as oversee the day-to-day operations.

The Bet Shalom Interim Executive Director oversees and manages the congregation’s day to day business operations, personnel and physical plant. The Interim Executive Director will partner closely with the Senior Rabbi and Bet Shalom President in implementing all aspects of our congregation’s mission including synagogue operations, program management, and member relations.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Implementation of policies determined by the Senior Rabbi, President and Board of Trustees
  • Volunteer Development including committees, Board of Trustees and individual volunteerism
  • Security
  • Budget management and oversight
  • Management of the facility
  • Oversight of IT systems
  • Maintaining membership data
  • Maintaining Bet Shalom’s calendar
  • Human Resources

Experience and Qualification Requirements:

Required Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Leadership role(s) managing people, programs and events
  • Significant budgeting and financial management
  • Significant use of Microsoft Office applications and web-based technology, including online payment tools and communication tools
  • Web site management and social media
  • Management of basic contracts and vendor relationships

Required Capabilities:

  • To build and sustain relationships with diverse constituencies
  • To use or learn new, relevant computer applications and tools
  • To nurture, support and coordinate the work of volunteers
  • Familiarity with Jewish Ritual, holiday and life-cycle traditions
  • Strong written and oral communications skills

Desirable (But not required):

  • Relevant master’s degree or certificate in non-profit management
  • Experience working in a non-profit setting or strong involvement in Bet Shalom Committee work
  • Experience/exposure working for or volunteering with a synagogue or other Jewish service organization
  • Experience using software to manage a large database for membership administration
