Proposals Are Now Being Accepted for The Howard B. & Ruth F. Brin Jewish Arts Endowment!
Requests for funding to support artistic creativity with Jewish content are now being accepted for the Howard B. & Ruth F. Brin Jewish Arts Endowment Fund, a designated endowment of the Jewish Community Foundation of the Minneapolis Jewish Federation. Applications emphasizing music, dance, literature, theater, visual arts and film from artists or institutions are welcome. The intended audiences may be Jewish, general or both but must be located within Minnesota, with a possible reach to the upper Midwest.
The application deadline is Friday, July 27, 2012. Winning projects will be announced before the Jewish New Year, September 17, 2012.
The Howard B. & Ruth F. Brin Jewish Arts Endowment Fund has supported artists and institutions in the creation of art with Jewish content for the past 20 years. Awards have ranged from $500 to $3,000.
The Endowment is named for the prominent Minneapolis couple Howard B. Brin and Ruth F. Brin. Mr. Brin (1919-1988) was a vital community leader, amateur violist and archeologist at Masada; Ruth F. Brin (1921-2009) wrote 13 published books including poetry, children’s books, a memoire and a novel and was also an editor, teacher and nationally recognized Jewish liturgist. Her prayers appear in Reform, Conservative and Reconstructionist prayer books. Together, Howard and Ruth Brin believed the arts are an essential way to enhance Jewish identity for both the artist and the Jewish community. The fund is now a memorial to this vital couple.
