Position Summary:
The Accounting Manager is responsible for managing the accounting and payroll functions of the organization. This includes supervising accounting staff, managing month-end closing activities, overseeing payroll processing (including regulatory and compliance aspects), performing complex accounting entries and supporting budget and audit activities. This role will also support or lead various department projects focused on increased use of technology and process improvements.

Salary and Benefits:
- Annual salary is $85,000

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Accounting (50%):
- Oversee all aspects of the monthly accounting cycle, including accounts payable and accounts receivable, journal entries and account reconciliations
- Supervise accounting staff, providing ongoing oversight and support
- Perform complex accounting entries, including allocations, endowment entries and other specialized transactions
- Assist with internal and external financial reporting activities
- Assist with the development and monitoring of the annual budget
- Administrator for financial accounting software
Payroll (25%):
- Oversee the complete payroll process, including labor allocations, data entry, payroll calculations and payroll distribution. Ensure accuracy and compliance with federal, state and local regulations
- Work closely with Human Resources to document and implement payroll changes, including salary adjustments, new hires and terminations
- Ensure payroll processes comply with all relevant regulations, including tax reporting and filing requirements
- Manage employee time off accruals in Paylocity
Compliance and Internal Controls (10%):
- Ensure compliance with all applicable financial and payroll regulations, including nonprofit-specific requirements
- Enforce financial policies and procedures to strengthen internal controls and mitigate risk
- Assist with annual financial audit and funder compliance monitoring activities
Special Projects (15%):
- Lead or participate in special projects, such as financial analysis, process improvements or system implementations, that support the organization’s strategic initiatives
- Work collaboratively with departments from across the organization to address pain points and ensure smooth functioning of financial processes
Work Environment/Physical Demands:
- Combination of walking, sitting, standing in an office setting. Constant written and verbal communication. Occasional lifting, stooping, bending or climbing.

Experience and Qualifications Requirements:
Education and Licensing
- Associate or bachelor’s degree in accounting or equivalent
- Education or experience in nonprofit accounting desirable but not required
Experience
- Progressive experience in an accounting role, including experience with complex accounting entries and monthly and annual closing processes
- Experience with and understanding of payroll processes, including regulatory and compliance aspects
- Experience using financial/accounting software; Blackbaud Financial Edge and/or Raiser’s Edge experience desirable
- Thorough understanding of accrual-based accounting and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
