Position Summary:

The Director of Bet Shalom Yeladim will provide leadership and vision for our early childhood center, overseeing a creative, dynamic, and nurturing learning environment for children ages 6 weeks through 5 years. The Director is responsible for working with teachers to implement a curriculum that is centered on Jewish values; ensuring compliance with performance standards and recognized best practices in early childhood education; overseeing enrollment; and assisting with the budget and adherence to licensing standards. This is a full-time position that will report to Bet Shalom’s Executive Director and work together with other staff and with our early childhood committee in order to develop a community of learners and a family of friends.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities



  • Support and implement a strong vision for the future of Bet Shalom Yeladim
  • Create and implement a Reform Jewish values-based curriculum 
  • Maintain all licensing requirements and ensure that all policies are adhered to
  • Maintain and enhance content for Bet Shalom Yeladim’s website and Facebook page
  • Create and manage the budget for Bet Shalom Yeladim and work with our Financial Manager on tuition and billing
  • Coordinate opportunities for young family involvement, including Young Family Shabbat
  • Work with the early childhood committee to market for Bet Shalom Yeladim and provide tours for prospective families


  • Oversee and supervise Assistant Director
  • Recruit, hire, orient, supervise, and provide staff development for teaching staff 
  • Work with staff to develop teacher schedules and breaks
  • Encourage collaboration and feedback from staff through regular staff meetings and weekly emails


  • Develop relationships with all children, learning each child’s developmental needs 
  • Lead school wide programming and observe and work with children to ensure appropriate implementation of curriculum


  • Communicate with parents through regular email and website updates, blog posts, and one-on-one interaction
  • Work with other staff to plan and implement family programming opportunities during and outside of preschool hours

Bet Shalom Community 

  • Attend occasional Bet Shalom Board meetings
  • Attend weekly Bet Shalom staff meetings
  • Work with the Associate Rabbi and Assistant Director of Religious School in development of High Holy Day programming
  • Participate in family and synagogue-wide events when appropriate

Experience and Qualifications Requirements: 

The ideal candidate for this position will have experience working with children and families, knowledge of child development, staff and fiscal management experience, and a passion for Jewish Education. A Bachelor’s Degree is required along with staff supervision and management experience.
