Position Summary:

We are a small synagogue looking for an organized, engaging, and energetic Congregational Administrator to provide organizational support and to assist with member in-reach and outreach. This is an opportunity for the right person to help a small congregation thrive.

OVERVIEW:

Mayim Rabim is affiliated with the Jewish Reconstructionist Movement. We are an inclusive, urban Jewish community with about 55 households, mostly adults in mid-life or older, with diverse interests and backgrounds.

Mayim Rabim holds Shabbat services twice monthly, as well as holiday and social celebrations and adult learning opportunities. We strive to be a warm and welcoming community and to offer our members opportunities for worship, social connection, spiritual growth, music, learning, support for each other, and social action. We operate in-person and virtually and hold most events in space we share with the Minneapolis Friends Meeting in Linden Hills, Minneapolis.

The Congregational Administrator will coordinate and support the financial, programming, communication, and administrative activities of the congregation consistent with the vision, policies, and goals established by the Board of Directors.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

KEY JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Operations/Administration: Handle a wide variety of day-to-day operations, for example:

  • Calendar and event management, including logistical support for Shabbat services, High Holiday services, and educational programs
  • Correspondence, including telephone, email, and written
  • Regular communication with and support to the Board of Directors, committees, and Rabbi, including meeting attendance as needed
  • Maintain supplies
  • Oversee building access, setup, cleanup, and AV for events
  • Maintain documentation of processes, policies, procedures, and other records

Communications and Engagement: Plan and execute a variety of internal and external communications, for example:

  • Coordinate with the membership committee to attract and retain members, and promote Mayim Rabim in the community
  • Communicate with prospective members as well as the broader community
  • Engage in outreach efforts, including weekly emails, social media, and a newsletter
  • Oversee design and placement of occasional advertising and other innovative marketing strategies
  • Maintain the membership directory
  • Oversee member mailings

Financial Management: Assure sound financial management of the congregation, for example:

  • Support the Finance Committee in reviewing income and expenses and in preparing financial reports and budgets for the board
  • Administer payroll and bill paying
  • Oversee bookkeeping and management of congregational accounts
  • Monitor congregational and committee budgets
  • Oversee the collection of dues and donations

Experience and Qualifications Requirements:

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience with non-profit business operations, programming, and financial/budget management
  • Familiarity with the rhythm of Jewish life, including Shabbat, Holidays, rituals and tradition
  • High integrity, problem solving skills, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively
  • Organizational skills and ability to manage a wide variety of tasks and deadlines, while maintaining high attention to detail
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills
  • Willing to be an engaged ambassador for Mayim Rabim, internally and externally
  • Able to handle confidential and sensitive matters with professionalism and discretion
  • Able to work flexible hours including some evenings and weekends (events, meetings, services, and Jewish High Holidays)
  • Proficiency with technology tools or willingness to learn new programs
  • High level of computer literacy, including experience with QuickBooks, Microsoft Office, social media, and simple website updates

  • The Administrator must be located in or close to the Twin Cities in Minnesota.

Additional Information

Hourly pay range is $25-$30 per hour, depending on experience.

This position is 0.4 time (16 hours/week) and is not eligible for benefits. Much but not all of the work can be done remotely. A flexible schedule is possible, as needed to fulfill the job responsibilities.
