Position Summary:
The Executive Director is a member of the leadership team for Mount Zion Temple and is responsible for sustaining and nurturing relationships with congregants and the community, supervising administrative staff, running day-to-day operations, and managing the fiscal and operational needs of the congregation. Reporting to the President of the Board of Directors, the Executive Director is a key connection point between congregants, clergy, volunteers, and the entire St. Paul community.
Mount Zion Temple is a vibrant and welcoming Reform Jewish community of approximately 680 households in St. Paul, Minn., with a strong tradition of involved lay leaders and congregational volunteers. We are the oldest synagogue in the Upper Midwest, founded in 1856. We pride ourselves on being a caring, intergenerational, and inclusive congregation with deep connections to the strength and welfare of our members, staff, and wider community. We are guided by a recently adopted vision and strategic plan and we desire an Executive Director who will help us bring this plan to fruition.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
The ideal candidate will be experienced and excited about the following duties:
- Lead by example as an equal partner with our Senior Rabbi and leadership team in fostering derech eretz (consideration and kindness) in the congregational community including staff, volunteers, and congregants.
- Recruit, manage, and supervise staff including administrative and building maintenance professionals.
- Direct building maintenance, operations, and security, and third party vendors.
- Maintain fiscal responsibility, stability, and oversight for the congregation including fundraising campaigns.
- Sustain and grow congregational engagement and collaboration for new and existing members for the Board of Directors, committees, affinity organizations, and community associations.
- Greet all people with warmth and joy.
- Oversee building maintenance and operations.
- Manage the Mount Zion Cemetery.
Experience and Qualifications Requirements:
- Preferred competencies include:
- Demonstrated ability to manage 5-10 people with disparate responsibility and experience levels.
- Prior experience in a leadership position, especially in a congregational setting.
- Ability to collaborate with lay leaders and embrace different perspectives with flexibility and compassion while also making key decisions on behalf of the congregation.
- Possess proven leadership skills and be a creative problem solver who can influence, lead, and inspire.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and responsibilities at once.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
- Comfortable with the use of technology and digital communication methods.
- Budget management experience.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
Additional Information
Job Expectations:
- This is a full-time salaried position. The Executive Director is expected to self-manage and set their own work hours with approval by the President. Your schedule will include hours on Shabbat, Jewish Holidays, Sunday mornings while the religious school is in session, key committee meetings, and events.
- Being accessible and responsive to congregants in a timely manner is a core component of this position; congregants must experience the known presence of the Executive Director. On-site presence is required for a minimum of 75% of working hours
- Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience with a range of $100,000-$120,000. The generous benefits package includes medical and dental insurance, short and long-term disability, PTO, life insurance, a relocation package, and a retirement plan.
