Position Summary:

To support the Minneapolis Jewish Federation’s vision to empower, engage, and inspire Jewish community by developing and implementing exceptional marketing and communication strategies. The Marketing & Communications Specialist will work cross-functionally across teams, including marketing & communications, development, Jewish Community Foundation, finance, and community impact & engagement to achieve the organization’s goals.

Minneapolis Jewish Federation is in search of a marketing & communications specialist to help translate complicated funding mechanisms into real-world impact through copywriting and inspiring design. 

ABOUT YOU: You are a writer and creator; you know what an Oxford comma is, and you love it (okay, love isn’t a requirement). You like talking to people about their experiences and writing content for a variety of media, plus you aren’t afraid to learn new things. You know the Creative Suite and have a background in journalism or copywriting; bonus points if you can find your way around Salesforce. You know that a meeting isn’t a meeting unless there is a platter of bagels, and you like to ask why before you ask how.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities


  • Translates Federation’s mission, vision, and impact into visually compelling copy and branded marketing messages for both print and digital spaces
  • Collaborates with other teams to write about, brand, design, position, and market events and programs


  • Works with the marketing team to create, manage, and execute communications plans and calendars 
  • Manages and executes production of print and digital newsletters 
  • Develops key messaging documents and talking points about events/initiatives/developments to streamline communications throughout the organization
  • Manages, writes, and coordinates press releases
  • Develops relationships with local media
  • Develops innovative communications strategies and tools to share information with target audiences
  • Works closely with the Director of Marketing & Communications on the messaging for all marketing collateral
  • Manages and supports Federation’s brand image
  • Creates graphic design and layout for print and online marketing collateral consistent with Federation’s brand standards, including invitations, signage, brochures, e-newsletters, web pages, stationery, social media postings, etc.
  • Serves as brand manager for the Federation and Jewish Community Foundation; ensures that all materials, Federation or otherwise, adhere to appropriate brand standards, including logo usage, and placement.
  • Works closely with outside vendors (e.g. printing, website development, mailhouse).
  • Participates in and attends Minneapolis Jewish Federation events as it relates to supporting the position’s role and responsibilities. Supports internal teams with production assistance, event setup and strike, and on-site marketing (requires moderate physical activity).
  • Assists with video creation either internally or with an external video production company, when required, including content generation, storyboarding, creative direction, and editing.

Experience and Qualifications Requirements: 

EDUCATION: Associate’s/Bachelor’s Degree in English, creative writing, journalism, marketing, or related field or commensurate experience and skills.

EXPERIENCE: 3-7 years’ experience in a marketing and communications role. Expertise in and experience with: 

  • Portfolio of writing and design for internal and external communications, in a variety of voices, to multiple audiences
  • Excellent writing and communication skills; exceptional proofing/reviewing skills
  • Demonstrates an ability to read, interpret, compose, and present technical information
  • Computer proficiency in Windows and Mac environment.
  • Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Premier Pro)
  • Facebook and Facebook Ads, LinkedIn, Twitter, TikTok, Instagram and other platforms
  • Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Interacts independently, positively, and proactively with donors, vendors, volunteers, committee members, and colleagues
  • Demonstrates ability to think strategically, plan, and manage projects with minimal supervision
  • Has a strong attention to detail
  • Demonstrates discretion when handling and communicating sensitive information
  • Exhibits an ability to set and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Proves to be self-motivated and capable or working both independently and as a member of a team
  • Commits to occasionally working irregular hours, including nights and weekends that involve organizational events and meetings

Additional Information

We are currently working a hybrid schedule out of our Minnetonka location. We will be fully remote starting in August for approx. 3 months and then will move into a new location with collaborative space. 

SALARY: $45,000 – $60,000. Benefits include vacation, sick leave, FSA, HSA, health, dental, disability, and life insurance as well as 401(k) match.
