Position Summary:
Beth El USY is the first USY chapter in the country. With such a legacy, we take pride in the fact that we maintain a thriving youth group that is predominantly run by a teen board. Our USY chapter aims to provide a safe and engaging space for Jewish teens at Beth El to gather, create community, and build connections with each other and with Judaism.
The ideal candidate for our USY advisor is a strong role model who demonstrates kindness, respect, and accountability for our teens and teen leaders. They will help facilitate our weekly lounge nights, board meetings, and relevant conventions and retreats by supporting our teen leaders and encouraging them to take ownership of their programming. The USY advisor will give feedback to teens on their program plans, coach their leadership skills, and manage behavioral concerns and interpersonal relationships as needed.
On a typical week, this position is approximately 3 hours of work on Tuesday evening lounge nights from 6-9 p.m. This position also attends four conventions a year, which are overnight retreats that run Friday-Sunday. This position also attends three to five additional events throughout the year with Beth El USY typically on Saturday nights. The USY Youth Group Advisor is expected to maintain consistent attendance on Tuesday evenings and other USY programming and communicate absences well in advance.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Specific Responsibilities Include:
Oversee USYers to ensure:
- Programs are written up on time
- Programs are advertised on social media
- All logistics are confirmed in a timely manner
Attend all USY programs including weekly lounge nights (Tuesday nights) and monthly board meetings
Attend conventions and retreats as listed: (Youth Outreach Weekend (YOW), Fall Kinnus, Winter Shabbaton, Spring Kallah)
Attend the Purim Carnival and help with carnival set-up
Attend additional programs as needed
Serve as a role model for students, both secularly and Jewishly
Help foster healthy and safe relationships among students
Other duties as assigned
Compensation: Salaried at $5,000 paid biweekly from August – May.
Experience and Qualifications Requirements:
Education/Experience:
- History of working with high schoolers
- Excellent at working with high schoolers
- Excellent at managing large groups
- Knowledge of basic Jewish traditions and practice
- Reports to: Director of Youth Engagement
