Grief: A Natural Disaster of the Heart

JFS is offering a new series focused on education, support and hope for any adult grieving the death of a loved one, “Grief: A Natural Disaster of the Heart,” Wednesday evenings from 6:30-8 p.m. at JFS October 18, November 1, November 15 and November 29.

The group will be co-facilitated by Kris Linner, M.Div., BCC, and JFS Community Program Coordinator Anne Myers. Kris is a retired board-certified chaplain who spent her career in end-of-life care as a chaplain in hospice and long-term care. She is a published author and national speaker on grief with more than 20 years of experience in leading grief support groups.

Anne Myers is a human services professional who worked in hospice for more than 20 years. She created and coordinated a bereavement camp for children and oversaw a grief support program for adults.

The four sessions will cover topics including what is normal grief; coping with the holidays; “Tasks of Grief” by William Worden; hints for rebuilding; and behavioral and physical reactions to grief.

In addition to grief education, there will be time for participants to share the story of their loved one in a safe, compassionate environment.

Participants should plan to attend all four sessions and have had a loss in the last 3-12 months. Email JFS Community Programs Coordinator Anne Myers at [email protected] or phone her at (651) 359-7775 to register to attend.

The program is free; however, donations are appreciated at https://jfssp.org/donate.
