Keith and Frank will address the increase in Hate Crimes and broader issues of racism and antisemitism in our community. The Tzedek committee is committed to deepening our congregational conversations about, and responses to, racial injustice. We hope that honoring the memory of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. in this way will inspire us throughout the year and strengthen our work on this urgent issue.

Keith Ellison is serving as the 30th Attorney General of Minnesota. Ellison was the U.S. Representative for Minnesota’s 5th congressional district from 2007 to 2019. He also served as the Deputy Chair of the Democratic National Committee from 2017 to 2018. Ellison was the first Muslim to be elected to Congress and the first African-American representative from Minnesota. He is a graduate of the University of Minnesota Law School.
Frank Hornstein is serving in his ninth term in the Minnesota House where he represents parts of downtown and southwest Minneapolis. He currently chairs the Transportation Finance and Policy Division. Prior to his election Hornstein served on the Metropolitan Council and was the founding co-director of Jewish Community Action. He also helped to start The Alliance an organization working on regional equity issues. He served as the co-director and organizing director of Clean Water Action. and is a graduate of Macalester College and Tufts University’s school of Urban and Environmental Policy. He is married to Rabbi Marcia Zimmerman of Temple Israel.
