Minnesota JCC Symphony Orchestra Concert
CONDUCTOR’S TALK • 7 PM
CONCERT • 7:30 PM
AMIR KATS, CONDUCTOR
This year, the Symphony exclusively played repertoire for strings. We look forward to being a full symphony in the fall. But first we’re concluding the season with a program that explores the string orchestra’s broad expressive spectrum. Albinoni’s Sinfonia is both elegant and vividly vibrant. The Elgar Serenade’s romantic lyricism contrasts with the Mendelssohn Symphony’s almost-neurotic storm and stress. The understated sorrow of Ravel’s Pavane is answered with Copland’s boisterous “Hoedown” from his ballet Rodeo, ending our season with rollicking celebration. Come join us!
Program:
Tomaso Albinoni: Sinfonia in G Major
Edward Elgar: Serenade for Strings
Felix Mendlessohn: String Symphony No. 10 in B Minor
Maurice Ravel: Pavane for a Dead Princess
Aaron Copland: Hoedown
