Mussar for Communities of Obligation
Inspired by the Jewish wisdom traditions of Mussar (applied Jewish ethics) and Chassidut (applied Jewish mysticism), David Jaffe’s book, Changing the World from the Inside Out, creates an integrated path of personal and societal change. This course seeks to make your justice work more effective because it is spiritually grounded, nourishing, and sustainable. It will create a vision of a more equitable, compassionate, and sustainable society. It seeks to move social justice work beyond its fractured particular issue focus towards societal transformation. The Inside Out Wisdom and Action (IOWA) curriculum builds on Jewish teachings and values. It will promote your spiritual growth with Jewish values that counter the dominant culture: replacing hyper-individualism with commitment to community, competition with mutual responsibility and cooperation, and exploitation with the preservation of human dignity and the planet.
