Intermediate Mussar is a class for those who have completed the Intro to Mussar class at Adath or who have completed a beginning Mussar class at another venue. It is recommended to students that have not yet been introduced to the curriculum from the Center for Contemporary Mussar led by Rabbi Ira Stone.
The intent of this Mussar Intermediate class is to provide a bridge between the Mussar practice introduced by the Center for Jewish Spirituality, David Jaffee, and Alan Morinis toward the practice of the Center for Contemporary Mussar. We will continue to explore the basics of Mussar study, using diverse texts; application of the middot; chesbon hanefesh (journaling and self-examination); va’ad (practical group work on the middot); meditation and chant; and outside of class work with a chevrutah partner. We will introduce to our Mussar practice the conceptual framework of kibbush protocol created by Rabbi Ira Stone.
