TC Jewish Film Festival Closing Celebration: ‘That’s Entertainment!’

Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM) during its Golden Age heyday boasted of “more stars than there are in the heavens.” And with names like Fred Astaire, Clark Gable, Judy Garland, Gene Kelly, Mickey Rooney, Spencer Tracy, Joan Crawford, Katharine Hepburn and Greta Garbo, who would argue? Come join us as we celebrate the 100th anniversary of this storied Hollywood studio as film historians and authors David Fantle and Tom Johnson present MGM at 100: now That’s Entertainment! Their presentation will be followed by a screening of the 1974 film That’s Entertainment!,” a compilation of the studio’s greatest musical numbers.

Program followed by a 30th Closing Celebration with refreshments featuring local New Orleans-style jazz meets Klezmer band JEWBALAYA included with ticket.

David Fantle, in collaboration with Tom Johnson has been interviewing, writing and speaking about Hollywood’s Golden Age for 45 years. He is an adjunct professor of film at Marquette University in Milwaukee.

Tom Johnson is a former senior editor at Netflix and has written about movies for E! Online, Moviefone and People Magazine, among other publications.

Fantle and Johnson have co-authored three books: Reel to Real (1994), Hollywood Heyday: 75 Interviews with Golden Age Legends (2018) and C’mon, Get Happy: The Making of Summer Stock (2023)
