Janet Horvath played Kol Nidre on cello at Mount Zion for many years. Horvath, associate principal cello of the Minnesota Orchestra (1980-2012), will speak during the Shabbat service about how she unearthed family secrets about her family’s survival during the Holocaust. There will be a Q & A conversation during the oneg.

A sweeping history of three generations darkened by the long shadow of the Holocaust, The Cello Still Sings is a vivid, moving, and true story of personal discovery. The book contains humorous anecdotes as well as 60 historic photos including of the survivor orchestra in which Horvath’s father played 200 morale boosting programs in DP camps from 1946-48, two with the legendary maestro Leonard Bernstein at the helm.
