The Power of Community–JewishGen Discussion Groups

On June 27 from 1-2:30 p.m. (CDT) the Minnesota Jewish Genealogical Society will host Phil Goldfarb, President of the JGS of Tulsa, who will present the program:

The Power of Community–JewishGen Discussion Groups

JewishGen is the leading site for those exploring Jewish genealogy and provides a host of resources. One of its most valuable is the JewishGen Discussion Group (JGDG). Crowdsourcing, drawing on the network of Jewish genealogists, is one of the most effective way to solve our genealogical puzzles. This program will address a range of topics including how to make effective use of this resource, accessing archival messages, use of hashtags, how to avoid having your message rejected or deleted. and of course some of the many success stories that have come out of the JGDG.

Phil Goldfarb is a genealogy contributor for several websites. He has lectured extensively on various topics in genealogy, published articles on genealogy in numerous periodicals and authors a monthly column in the Tulsa Jewish Review. He has written two books, A Page of History: Passport Applications 1851-1914 and A Page of History: Passport Applications Volume II 1915-1925.

Phil is active in JewishGen and serves as Lead Moderator for the JewishGen Discussion Group. He is also the founding and current President of the Jewish Genealogical Society of Tulsa. In July 2020 he won an Emmy Award as a Producer for the Tulsa Historical Society’s documentary titled: L’dor V’dor Generation to Generation: A History of Tulsa’s Jewish Community which has been shown on PBS stations around the U.S. as well as being available to view on Amazon Prime and YouTube.
