Who the Folk?! Dan Canfield

Welcome to “Who the Folk?!” Every week on Monday we feature a new member of the community as our “Person of the Week.” Last week week we got to know Justin Held. This week meet Dan Canfield! Know someone we should feature? Nominate them by sending an email to [email protected]

Pic-Dan CanfieldTC Jewfolk: Are you from the Twin Cities?

Dan: I am originally from Omaha, NE and then spent some time in San Francisco before moving here for my fiancee Rachel Javitch.

TCJ: You’re the proud new owner of Bellies to Babies, a maternity clothing store. How did a guy like you get into that business?

Dan: Great question, as there are few men in the maternity industry! I stumbled upon a business for sale that had a lot of opportunity and I love marketing and retail so I decided to go all in and purchase Bellies to Babies in hopes of growing it to a national brand.

TCJ: What’s your favorite way to celebrate Shabbat?

Dan: I would like to celebrate Shabbat more often, but when I do, I enjoy being with a couple of friends just hanging out, eating some good food.

TCJ: What’s your favorite Jewish food?

Dan: Matzah brei! Nothing beats a little matzah brei with sour cream and jelly.

TCJ: What’s your favorite Jewish holiday?

Dan: Hanukkah. I enjoy lighting the menorah and trying to remember all of the prayers each night.

TCJ: Who is the coolest Jew?

Dan: I am a big fan of Howard Schultz (Starbucks founds and CEO) because he has an amazing story on how he started Starbucks and gives back in a huge, positive way!

TCJ: Have you been to Israel? What’s your favorite memory?

Dan: Yes, on Birthright my Freshman year. The Golan Heights were incredible, taking a jeep over the dunes and such.

TCJ: What’s your top strategy for surviving winter?

Dan: Remote car starter.

TCJ: What’s your favorite thing to do in the Cities?

Dan: I love running around Lake Calhoun or going to a show downtown.

TCJ: Give us one more reason why you’re folking awesome!

Dan: Well I may need 6 to 7 pages for this…

Just joking. Honestly, I am always in to do something fun like going dancing on a random night or going to any Jewish event!
