Who the Folk?! Noah Itman

Welcome to “Who the Folk?!” Every week on Monday we feature a new member of the community as our “Person of the Week.” Last week we got to know Josh Mann. This week meet Noah Itman! Know someone we should feature? Nominate them by sending an email to [email protected].

TC Jewfolk: Are you from the Twin Cities?

Noah: I am originally from Saint Louis Park, which is also where I currently reside. I have lived in several places throughout the United States while I was in school including; Massachusetts, New York, Idaho and Colorado.

TCJ: You have your own music start-up, ItMusic. What exactly is it and is it anything like Kazaa? (Remember Kazaa, kids?)

Noah: ItMusic is a free web site/social network with a variety of features that are useful for both musicians and for listeners. I book and promote a number of concerts throughout the Twin Cities as an added benefit to bands for using ItMusic.Us. We also happened to just launch a crowd-funding campaign on Indie-go-go to get ItMusic and the great musicians on our site to the next level. And there are very few similarities between ItMusic and Kazaa.

TCJ: What’s your typical week like?

Noah: Extremely busy and unpredictable! My weeks sometimes include countless hours of phone meetings (sometimes overnight due to talking to people in European time zones during their business hours) while other weeks I may have a number of back-to-back meetings all over town with people in person. I go to local concerts to promote and network usually 4 to 6 nights per week. When all that is combined with setting up/booking/promoting shows as well as promoting my company and our current fundraiser, I personally just sleep every other night so that I can make sure I am getting everything done.

TCJ: Ballpark it for us… how many concerts have you seen in your life?

Noah: Oooph, this will definitely require a ballpark guess since (thanks to my mother) I have been going to concerts frequently since I was 5 years old. My GUESS is that its somewhere around 2,500.

TCJ: What’s your favorite Jewish holiday?

Noah: I have countless fond memories of my family’s Passover dinners at my Uncle Joe and Aunt Linda’s house. This year I unfortunately had to miss it due to meetings I had that I was not able to reschedule.

TCJ: What’s your favorite Jewish food?

Noah: I love matzo ball soup! It has always been a staple at family events and I’ll always remember getting it from the Lincoln Del every time I went there. Both of which always trigger some good nostalgia.

TCJ: Who is the coolest Jew? (Why?)

Noah: (In no particular order)
Albert Einstein
Bob Dylan (Robert Zimmerman)
The Fonz… nuff said!

I chose these three people due to their cultural impact and the ways they have inspired me. Whether it be by increasing my thirst for knowledge, helping me understand a wider spectrum of thoughts and beliefs and how to convey them or just by they’re confident and cool enough to do anything and correctly.

TCJ: Winter is over! What’s your favorite summer activity?

Noah: I like to be active, whether I’m going on a bike ride or parking intentionally far from a concert in Minneapolis to get free parking and a good walk.

TCJ: What’s your favorite thing to do in the Cities?

Noah: I feel lucky to live in the Twin Cities and right now in particular, many people I know compare it to what Seattle was like prior to the explosion of Grunge-Rock.

TCJ: Give us one more reason you’re folking awesome!

Noah: I love lemons, limes and anything sour!
