Favorite Mel Brooks movie? You may as well ask me to name my favorite child!
If pressured, I would have to say Robin Hood: Men in Tights. Cary Elwes almost never disappoints (Yes, I’m ignoring Saw), and it’s funny from start to finish. Blazing Saddles comes a very close second, but loses due to the awkward ending.
Young Frankenstein!
One of my all-time favorite memories as a child was the vacation we took to Glacier National Park. We spent a good part of dinner at the lodge one night quoting lines with our waiter. Mom was mortified, but I can’t remember laughing so hard as when I saw my 7 year old sister ask the waiter if he’d like to take a roll in the hay!
Well, it has to be High Anxiety. Saw it in a theatre in Bemidji, MN!
Fav movie has to be Spaceballs. Well, it my favorite and my nemesis. Why? My last name is Schwartz. That’s all I hear. “May the Schwartz be with you.” Every time I had a shirt with “Schwartz” on the back, someone wrote “May the” above it, and “Be With You” below it. Never failed. People think it’s funny & that they’re the first one to say it to me, but I get it all the time. Even though the movie hasn’t been in theaters for years!
However, even with all this silly havoc and sometime annoyance… I love this movie. From John Candy as Barf to the drones coming the desert with a pic (we ain’t found shit!), it’s a fantastic movie parody of one of the greatest films of all time. There’s assholes & Mr. Coffee & raspberry yogurt. There’s canned oxygen, passcodes that are 1-2-3-4, and Dark Helmet. It’s amazing and I’d love to see what Mel brought to Broadway. Pick me!
Young Frankenstein! I can watch it over and over again. Robin Hood: Men in Tights probably comes in a very close second. I love the direction as well as the leading men in both roles. <3

I recorded Spaceballs the day HBO first aired it when it hit cable, and my friends and I watched it so much we wore the tape out! I’ve since bought it on DVD and have shared it with my 11-year-old son who loves it just as much as I!

I adore Young Frankenstein for the amazing casting, great comedic timing, bravery to release a movie not in color, etc. but my main reason is because they used many of the same props and lab equipment as the original Frankenstein done in 1931.
When I reviewed Young Frankenstein on facebook I said that it was in my top 5 movies that you must watch before you die. I’d love the chance to see it reinterpreted as a musical.
My partner has a favorite too: Blazing Saddles, which came out the same year as YF. “CandyGram for Mongo” is a quote often heard around the house.
The Producers -musical! No, Mel Brooks didn’t direct it, but it is the film of Mel Brooks’ musical, The Producers, so it counts.
Whatever happened to 2 Jews – 3 opinions?

Young Frankenstein is my favorite movie, because of the Teri Garr Scene where she sings “roll, roll, roll in the hay”.
Blazing Saddles!! There was so much un-p.c. about the movie, yet in a thoroughly hilarious, western spoof manner with all the Mel Brooks greats–Harvey Korman, Gene Wilder, and Madeline Kahn was gorgeous–loved her “off” singing voice. I really like the political teasing about something supposedly so “all-american”.

Young Frankenstein and High Anxiety. Madeleine Kahn’s best performance! I also am a huge fan of Mel Brooks and Alfred Hitchcock so Brooks’ tribute to and parody of Hitchcock’s work was so clever and hilarious!
History of the World, Part I !
(Oh, forgot to say the reason.)
Because of the hillarious combination of history, humor, and musical numbers. And how can you not love a “standup philosopher?”
My favorite Mel Brooks movie is Blazing Saddles. It was such a riot! Blazing Saddles is perfectly done as both a comedy and, oddly enough, a western.
My fav is the “History of the World, Part One”. It was full of hilarious scenes. I laughed so hard during the scene where the early man discovers music.
The best Mel Brooks movie, according to me, is the 1968 (original) version of “the Producers”. The comedy is brilliant and he leaves no doubt that he is a master of parody.
Before law school, Robinhood: Men in Tights. Men. In tights. And it’s hilarius.
After law school Young Frankenstein because Judge Morrow used a clip from the movie to teach law, “don’t open the door! don’t open the door!” Brilliant!
History of the World, Part 1. That was my first Mel Brooks movie experience and it made me laugh so hard. Even now, when I am down, I watch bits and pieces of that movie and it always manages to lift my spirits.
Blazing Saddles…It still makes me laugh out loud when I think of the horse getting punched out.
