Jew Wanna Go? | September 18 – September 24, 2015

Come to a party and screening to announce the TC Jewish film fest, meditate on the high holidays and catch a show downtown!

It’s brunch time! (FREE!)

Open House and Brunch at Mount Zion Temple

Sun. Sep. 20; 10:30 a.m.; Mount Zion Temple; 1300 Summit Ave., St.. Paul, MN

If you’re a new Jew to the TC community and still have no idea where the new Giordano’s pizza is, have no fear! Mount Zion Temple will be hosting a brunch for unaffiliated M.O.T.’s., in hopes of bringing in new members. Attendees will get to meet clergy and members of the congregation. They’ll also be given a tour. You had me at “brunch.”

This Is NOT a Concert! (FREE!)

High Holiday Meditation with Traditional Yiddish Music

Sun. Sep. 20; 2 p.m.; Mayim Rabim Congregation; 44th St and York Ave. S., Minneapolis, MN

Feeling sorry for yourself? Here, let me get my violin. Oh, wait. I don’t own a violin and have no idea how to play one. But local violinist Judith Eisner does! She and her ensemble (I want an ensemble!!! Maybe that’s what I’ll put on my Hannukah wishlist!) will be leading a meditation through interpretations of traditional Yiddish tunes. This is NOT a concert, so please, no applause…or wagering.

Line-Up! (PWYC)

Twin Cities Jewish Film Festival Line-Up Reveal Party

Thurs. Sep. 24; 6 p.m.; Bedlam Theatre; 213 East Fourth St., St. Paul, MN

Are you ready to watch some movies?!?! Too f***ing bad!! That being said, this event will be announcing the film line-up for The TC Jewish Film Festival. Dan Israel and the Cultivators will perform on stage before we screen the evening’s film, “The Wrecking Crew,” a musical documentary about the powerhouse LA Session band which recorded a ton of big hits in the ’60s and ’70s. So, ok. I lied. There will be a movie. But it’s, like, a documentary…and those are for, like, smart people and stuff.

Desperate Housewives ($27)

The Real Housewives of Edina: A Parody

Thurs. Sep. 24; 7:30 p.m.; New Century Theatre; Nicollet Mall, 615 Hennepin Ave #145, Minneapolis, MN

Something familiar, something peculiar, something for everyone: a comedy tonight! Oy, do you know how long I’ve been holding out for an opportunity to display my showtune prowess?! Anyhoo, The Realish Housewives of Edina: A Parody, an original play created by veteran Chicago-based comics and Second City writers Kate James and Tim Sniffen, will be crashing down on Minneapolis with its world premiere before going on a national tour. The production “lovingly spoofs the rise and fall of television reality stars with oodles of hometown charm.” TCJewfolk may purchase tickets with promo code WIVES: LINK.

Back Pocket…Events to Come! (Or…Events to Come, but we’ll schmooze about them more later!)
