Job Summary/Description:

The Executive Director will carry out tasks as described below. Perform such duties as may be requested by the president(s), rabbi, and officers to further the vision of the synagogue as described in the congregation’s mission statement. Align synagogue resources and facilities to maximize communication and minimize conflicts between the efforts of members, congregational leadership, rabbis, and employees, and act as a liaison between members, officers, employees, and affiliates. Report to the president, and more broadly to the board of trustees, as the representatives of the congregation.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. MEMBERSHIP AND PUBLIC RELATIONS: Maintain warm, open, and available communications with members to answer questions and resolve concerns. Staff liaison to committees. Staff lead on external relations (community, other synagogues, governmental, etc.).
  1. ORGANIZATIONAL DEVELOPMENT: Serve as staff lead in all financial matters. Collaborate with the Board to implement long-range planning and support fundraising efforts.
  1. ADMINISTRATION: Oversee the operations of everyday synagogue life. This includes:
  • Hire and supervise all staff (including programming, communications, finance, facilities, catering); all contractors; all vendors.
  • Maintain vendor relations.
  • Serve as staff liaison to lay leadership (board, officers, and committees).

Experience and Qualifications

Requirements

  1. 5-10 years’ experience in organizational management; nonprofit or religious institution preferred
  2. Bachelor’s degree or comparable work experience
  3. Demonstrated communications skills
  4. Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced, fluid environment
  5. Knowledge of Jewish practice and culture preferred.
