Job Summary/Description:

The Chief Development Officer (CDO) is responsible for developing and implementing the overall strategic vision for fundraising and development (FRD) at the JCC to achieve long-term and annual FRD goals. The Chief Development Officer is a full-time, exempt position reporting to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO).

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

Essential Functions

  • Develop the vision and strategies for FRD at the JCC
  • Hire, train, supervise and evaluate department staff
  • Work with CEO and CFO to set annual fundraising goals
  • Act as primary point of contact for Major Donors ($1k-5k annually)
  • Work with CEO to steward Major Donors ($5k+ and VIPs)
  • Develop and implement strategies to build endowment funds and planned gifts
  • Manage grants calendar and contracted grant writers
  • Create a comprehensive training program for volunteers and manage lay leader participation in JCC fundraising efforts
  • Create and manage the annual development calendar
  • Develop and oversee implementation of donor database protocols and procedures
  • Work with JCC marketing team to develop and oversee the FRD communication plan
  • Assist FRD staff in implementing JCC fundraising events
  • Assist FRD staff in implementing annual fundraising campaigns
  • Work with CEO to coordinate and implement Capital fundraising efforts
  • Actively participate as a member of the JCC executive staff team

Experience and Qualification Requirements:

Education: Bachelor’s degree in related field

Qualifications:

  • At least ten years of progressive professional experience in fundraising, development or other relevant non-profit settings
  • Proven leadership skills and ability to motivate others to work towards common performance objectives
  • Demonstrated experience visioning, developing and executing strategic plans to achieve both short and long term goals
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize tasks, allocate resources and meet deadlines
  • Strong familiarity with budgeting process and fiscal management
  • Understanding and ability to work closely with lay leaders and members of the community
  • Deep commitment to the mission of the JCC

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Experience working with donor database systems (Raiser’s Edge or similar)
  • Some working knowledge of tax laws that impact charitable giving, personal assets and estates
  • Knowledge of Judaism and/or previous experience working with the Jewish community
