Jewish Song of the Week: ‘Lo Alecha’ by Beth Schafer

Summer vacation is upon us! I absolutely LOVE this time of year: Jewish summer camp, summer trips, TONS of outside time — does it get any better?? We ALL deserve time to recharge our batteries and be with family.  We also always use a healthy reminder that making the world a better place is important EVERY time of the year. I thought this song — “Lo Alecha” by Beth Schafer and featuring Shira Kline, Michelle Citrin and Julie Silver — perfectly captures this aspiration.  The words come from Pirkei Avot, a collection of wise quotes from our rabbinic sages. Rabbi Tarfon says “It is not your duty to complete the work, but neither are you free to desist from it.” In other words, we don’t have to do it all, but we each have to do something to make a difference! Do some good out there, and have a great summer!
