Natalie Portman has a really pretty head.
This was, for my money, the main takeaway from her role as a frum bride-to-be in the movie New York, I Love You, which was also overshadowed in advance publicity for the movie by her role as a director for one of the short films that make up the larger movie. The whole movie was good, please don’t get me wrong – but her head definitely got short shrift in reviews this time around.
When V For Vendetta came out, most of what people heard about the movie was how Natalie had shaved her head for the role; this is when she hosted Saturday Night Live, when she filmed the digital short where she rapped:

There’s actually a band called Natalie Portman’s Shaved Head.
And the truth of the situation is that the storyline of the short that she’s in (which was directed by Mira Nair), her head plays a not insignificant part. She’s probably one of the best actors of our generation, but if she did every role bald it would just add a new dimension to all of them.
On a hairier note (sorry, I couldn’t help myself) – I’m looking for a little bit of help. Tell me, PopRockers – what do you consider Jewish pop culture? Is it anything made by or featuring someone Jewish? Is something produced by Jews automatically “Jewish”? Is it anything with Jewish producers, or anything that’s tangentially Jewish? And does something’s Jewish factor increase your interest in it?
