Rep. Paulsen Goes to Israel: Day Four

This is a guest post by Representative Erik Paulsen (MN-03). He is in Israel this week with AIPAC and will be blogging regularly and exclusively for TC Jewfolk during his trip. Miss yesterday’s post? Read it here.

Twin Towers 9/11 Memorial in Israel

Had dinner with the new Ambassador to Israel, Dan Shapiro, and his wife Julie Fisher at the official residence. Julie is a Duluth, Minnesota native and we had fun talking about the North Shore since I was just camping up there with my family a few weeks ago. They’re excited about their new assignment and their work to keep our country’s relationship with Israel strong. Their three girls just started school here this week.
Dan will certainly be busy given the continued highly visible issues in this region centered around security, defense and stability with other Mideast neighbors.
Unfortunately, one thing I won’t have time to do is visit the 9/11 memorial on the outskirts of Jerusalem. Almost two years ago I helped dedicate this special memorial by lighting its flame. It’s unique because it was, and probably still is, the only 9/11 memorial in a country outside of the U.S. that recognizes America’s 9/11 victims. It’s actually constructed of material from the World Trade Center itself.
All for now,
Erik Paulsen
