Super Sunday: It’s Time to Give Back

Tzedakah BoxRemember those intense Torah study classes at the Talmud Torah of St. Paul or the Minneapolis Jewish Day School? Or that moving event on Israel organized by our local JCRC? Did you meet your best friend at Shabbat dinner at Hillel at the University of Minnesota? Or attend a play last year at the Minnesota Jewish Theatre? Perhaps you know someone who got their critical needs addressed by Jewish Family and Children’s Services in Minneapolis or St. Paul.

If one of these Twin Cities Jewish organizations – or the multitude of others which depend for their funding on the Minneapolis Jewish Federation or the United Jewish Fund and Council of St. Paul (UJFC) – has made an impact on your life, now is the time to give back.

Each year on Super Sunday thousands of Jews around the country make phone calls to members of their community encouraging them to give – for the first time or for the twentieth – to their local Jewish federation, and thousands more make pledges offering what they are able to give, to ensure the continued existence of the Jewish organizations that supported, strengthened and inspired them.

If you live on the East side of the river, and want to donate to the UJFC of St. Paul for Super Sunday, click here. If you live on the West side of the river, and want to donate to the Minneapolis Jewish Federation for Super Sunday, click here.

Even if you’ve given before, your help is needed now . . . and again . . . please.

If you want to make phone calls to encourage other individuals to donate money this year (thus multiplying your impact, whether or not you personally have the resources to give this year), you have two options.

Minneapolis Jewish Federation is kicking off Super Sunday on November 22nd with their largest fundraising and community building event of the year. Join them to make calls at the Sabes JCC (4330 S. Cedar Lake Road in St. Louis Park) at one of five shifts, starting at 9:00am and ending at 8:00 pm (the Young Leadership shift is 5:00 – 8:00 pm). Join Young Leadership (ages 22-45) for a Super Sunday After Dark Party with pool, darts and karaoke at Park Tavern’s 11th Frame Bar at 3401 Louisiana Avenue South in St. Louis Park. The event is free for Super Sunday volunteers (including 2 drinks plus snacks) – otherwise it’s a $10 cover for everyone else (and includes 1 drink plus snacks). Register to make calls on Super Sunday by clicking here, and call Barb Adelman at 952-417-2347 or email her at [email protected] with questions.

United Jewish Fund and Council (UJFC) is celebrating Super Sunday a bit differently this year. Instead of organizing calls at one location on November 22nd, they are encouraging YOU to make phone calls on your own, by yourself, or with a small group of friends. You can learn the ropes for Super Sunday, hear about the Jewish organizations that the UJFC supports, socialize and eat some ice cream at the Super Sunday kick off event on Sunday, November 15th from 7:00-9:00pm at Dixies on Grand, at 695 Grand Avenue in St. Paul. Then go home and pick the time to make calls that works for your schedule. If you want to attend the kick off at Dixies, or want to make calls but can’t attend the event, reach out and call/emailDan Mogelson at 651-695-3189 or [email protected].

A lot of pocketbooks are tighter this November. If you are able to give financially, do so, because so many can’t this year and our local Jewish community organizations need your support. If you can’t give money this year, grab your cell phone and head to Dixies November 15th or the Sabes JCC November 22nd to call others.

I thank you in advance, on behalf of our community, for helping in whatever way you can to ensure that the Jewish organizations that shaped my life growing up in the Twin Cities are still around for my children’s children’s children.
