Wanted: TC Jewfolk Minnesota Politics Writer

Want to interview Norm Coleman about his political consulting work, U.S. Senator Al Franken about national health care, or State Representative Michael Paymar about how he’s cracking down on gun show loopholes?
TC Jewfolk is looking for an assertive, passionate and creative writer to cover the Minnesota (Jewish) politics beat for the blog during this spring’s legislative session, and into the election season this fall.
Are you up for the challenge?
Whether you’re a journalism student at the U trying to build your resume, or a veteran political columnist looking for a new audience, this gig has the potential for greatness. Yes, it’s unpaid. But we promise to print up (and laminate) a pretty press pass that you can wear around your neck on a lanyard to all the media events at the State Capitol you want to cover. And that’s priceless.
We’ll give you the list of Minnesota’s eleven Jewish legislators, all but one of which are running for re-election. We’ll connect you with our contacts at the Jewish organizations that we know are lobbying at the State Capitol on everything from health care to tax policy. And then we’ll let your writing run free. We’re not the type of editors who will cramp your style. If you’re a great writer who can combine news with personality, we want that voice to shine in every one of your stories.
We’re asking that you write 1-2 articles a week, but the length can vary (and feel free to use video/audio podcasts too).  If you haven’t written for a blog before, we’ll show you the ropes, and you’ll communicate regularly via email and occasionally by phone with Editor in Chief Leora Maccabee. This job isn’t straight news but it isn’t pure commentary either. Think MinnPost with a little bagels and lox.
To apply for this job, email Editor in Chief Leora Maccabee with “Minnesota Politics Writer” in the subject line. Include your resume and a concise pitch for why you’re the perfect fit. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis. We look forward to hearing from you.
