Are you a bluegrass music fan?  The Fattenin’ Frogs and The Boys ‘N’ the Barrels will be coming together for “Up From the Delta” a 10th anniversary tribute to the O’ Brother Where Art Thou bluegrass soundtrack at the Ritz Theater (345 13th Avenue Northeast, Minneapolis) at 8:00pm on November 18th. They will be joined by Javier Matos (of the Innocent Sons) and other special guests for an evening of music taken from and inspired by the movie.
As always, TC Jewfolk has the hook up.  Read on for how to win a pair of free tickets!
In 2001, O’ Brother Where Art Thou and producer T-Bone Burnett won the Grammy for Best Album, beating out the likes of U2 and Bob Dylan. The album is credited with bringing bluegrass and blues back to the main stage and has inspired everyone involved with “Up From the Delta.”
Berek Awend of The Fattenin’ Frogs sums up the impact of the album and the movie, “‘O Brother Where Art Thou introduced me to the roots of American music. It made me dig deeper and learn about the roots of blues, country, gospel and bluegrass. For a Jewish kid from St. Louis Park, these were topics that required a guide. The Coen Brothers and “O Brother [Where Art Thou] were the guides that provided a common thread to find people to play music with and play music for.”
Doors open at 7pm, show at 8pm. Tix are $10.  Note that the show was originally going to be at the Loring Theater, but the location has changed.
