I’m not anywhere near what one would call a regular Rush Limbaugh listener, so I, probably like many of you, missed his program this week calling the Democratic leadership Nazis and comparing Obama’s health care policies and logo to Nazi policies and Nazi insignia.
Here’s a partial video of Limbaugh speaking on the subject, and some of MSNBC’s Hardball commentary. You can read the full transcript of Limbaugh’s program online here. Not surprisingly, the entire Democrat party and Jewish leadership is an uproar.
Here is the context for Limbaugh’s remarks, thanks to the JTA. Limbaugh allegedly made the disgraceful comparison after U.S. Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) decried how protesters at town hall meetings about the Obama administration health care proposals were using swastikas in their protests. Pelosi was criticizing how the protesters (like Limbaugh) were comparing the Democrats to the Nazis. Limbaugh then in his radio program incorrectly accused Pelosi of likening Republicans to Nazis.
The American Jewish Congress and the Simon Wiesenthal Center lambasted Limbaugh’s “grossly offensive and intolerable” comparison. The Anti-Defamation League condemned Limbaugh’s “outrageous and inapropriate” remarks. The national Democratic Party called out Limbaugh for his “disgusting and shocking” comments. Capital J has done a great job compiling and commenting on these press releases on their blog.
If you want to sign a petition to tell Rush Limbaugh that the Nazi rhetoric must stop, go to the National Jewish Democratic Council’s website and give him a piece of your mind.
