Yes TC Jewfolk, it’s still winter. And you’re probably feeling a little trapped in your office/house. But don’t let it get you down! From the events highlighted below to the others on the January events page, there’s plenty going on to keep us from getting cabin fever.
Here are my picks for fun things to do as we dream of the thaw:

Thursday night has great events on both sides of the river. If you’re in the mood for socializing, check out the UJFC of St. Paul’s Young Leadership happy hour from 6:30-9pm at Tiffany Sport Lounge in Highland Park. Meet everybody in the upper section of the bar and enjoy 1/2-priced appetizers for the evening. The UJFC YL happy hours typically draw 20-40 people and it’s always a good chance to connect with friends and meet new people. If relaxing to Israeli folk-pop sounds like more your groove, check out a concert with chart-topping trio HaBanot Nechama at Adath Jeshurun, 7pm.

Looking for a little cultural diversion on Saturday night? Head over to the St. Paul JCC with a pair of dancing shoes for a night of Mandrágora Tango. The event starts at 7pm with an introduction to tango’s rich history (including its Jewish influences) and continues on with basic instruction and an open floor. The J promises the evening will be a great event for singles and young couples, from young adults to seniors. Tickets are $10 for St. Paul JCC members, $15 for non-members.

Join Shira Schwartz and Israeli shlicha Alisa Warshavsky at the St. Paul JCC for shira betzibur, an Israeli-style sing-a-long. One of the latest trends to hit Israel, shira betzibur brings everybody together for an event that somebody likened to “karaoke without the culpability.” Alisa promises that you don’t have to be a good singer (although you’re certainly welcome if you are!) or even know Hebrew – songsheets will also be transliterated into English. If you play an instrument, bring it along. 3:30pm at the St. Paul JCC.
