If you’re a jazz fan, who cares where you hear the music, right? What matters is how you feeeeeel the music. And how kick ass it sounds.
The Saint Paul JCC is turning up the heat by bringing “The Mattan Klein Quartet,” a world class ensemble playing jazz and world beat, to its very non-jazz club like facilities (although they try, with candles, tables and centerpieces). But as Twin Cities jazz writer Pamela Espeland explained, “It’s not your usual jazz venue, but the music is well worth seeking out and supporting.”
Lucky for you, TC Jewfolk has the hook up. An opportunity for TWO lucky TC Jewfolk readers to each WIN a pair of tickets (normally priced at $20) to see the show. Read on for more info.
The St Paul JCC is bringing Israeli Jazz flutist and composer Mattan Klein to the Twin Cities as part of its Yom Ha’atzmaut (Israeli Independence Day) celebrations. Klein is one of today’s hottest Jazz/World music artists, blending his clear and fluent flute sound with some of New York’s brightest contemporary voices. He has performed from Hong Kong and Viet Nam to Carnegie Hall and the Kennedy Center and was featured at the Tel Aviv International Jazz Festival in 2009.
According to the Senior Music Critic for Maariv, “Mattan Klein’s virtuoso improvisation lifts Jazz-flute playing to new heights.” In Mattan Klein’s words, “World music is today’s Jazz. The presence of Africa, India, South America and the Middle East makes Jazz a very diverse genre.”
Klein’s flute sound is clear, crisp and melodic and his international ensemble presents the ultimate contemporary Jazz sound that blends musical styles from various diasporas and Jewish communities worldwide. Joining Mattan are Manu Koch, Piano, Gustavo Amarante, Bass, and Yuval Lion, Drums, as well as Israeli visiting musicians Evyatar Edri and Or Cohen.
The Mattan Klein Quartet is performing at the Saint Paul JCC (1375 St. Paul Avenue) on Thursday, April 22 at 7pm. Tickets are $15 for members, $20 for the public, and $6 for students. Tickets are available online at www.stpauljcc.org, or by calling 651-698-0751. The concert is fundings by a generous grant from the United Jewish Fund and Council of St. Paul.
