Alef List: July 27th Edition

Everybody around me keeps mentioning that they can’t believe summer is “almost over.” I was doing a pretty good job of staying rooted in denial until today, when I realized that this edition of Alef List brings us all the way into August. But I refuse to be bummed by the fact that there’s only a 1/3 of the summer left. I’m going to get out there and enjoy all that the calendar has to offer. And you should too.
Here’s the Alef List from July 27 – August 9:
7/29/10:
It’s another fun Minneapolis Jewish Federation Young Leadership Happy Hour. This month, join the crew at Tryg’s on the river from 5:30 – 8pm. Find Barb if it’s your first time at a MJF YL happy hour and get a free glass of wine or beer (or check out this month’s trivia if you’re a regular who just wants a free drink).
7/30/10:
Join the Uptown Havurah for a picnic-style shabbat dinner by Lake Calhoun at 7pm. Vegetarian potluck, some singing and lots of shmoozing. According to Raysh Weiss, the Uptown Havurah is a welcoming, participatory, social, and spiritual community guided by Jewish traditions and values. Currently, the group consists primarily of graduate students and young professionals in their 20s and 30s. Contact Raysh for more info or to RSVP.
8/4/10:
Who doesn’t love a good concert? Head to the Cedar to catch the Balkan Beat Box with the Brass Messengers. The show which was originally scheduled for June 4th is finally here. Balkan Beat Box is a world music group originally formed by Israeli duo consisting of ex-Gogol Bordello member Ori Kaplan and Tamir Muskat of Firewater and Big Lazy. Tickets are $25 in advance and $28 at the door but TC Jewfolk readers can get a rockin’ discount or even win a pair of tickets. Doors at 7pm.
