Alef List: October 19 – Nov 1
Here’s the Alef List of the best Jew to-do’s in the Twin Cities from October 19 – (gasp is it really here already?!) November 1:
Wednesday, 10/20:
Watch out AIPAC, there’s another Israel lobby in town. Maybe you’ve already made up your mind about which of the two pro-Israel groups fits your ideas best (or maybe you’re not quite ready to align with either). If you haven’t figured out how you feel about J Street, it might be worth checking out their event here in the TC. Former Deputy Speaker of the Knesset Ambassador Colette Avital and J Street Founder and President Jeremy Ben-Ami will be the guest speakers when J Street Minnesota Presents: “Achieving Two-States: Why the Security of Israel Depends On It”. 7:30 pm at Mt. Zion Temple in St. Paul. Doors at 7pm.
Saturday, 10/23:
You have already bought your ticket to go to A Night with Freakonomics Co-Author Stephen J. Dubner, right? In case you’ve been hiding in a hole for the last two weeks (or maybe just unplugged from Twitter, Facebook, TC Jewfolk and your email?), I’ll enlighten you: Dubner’s making a Minneapolis appearance for Temple Israel’s 10th annual Voices of Inspiration benefit event. Lecture, dessert and book signing (bring your own copy or buy one there) for only $36. Or, if you act quickly, check out the $15 Groupon deal valid through Wed. I’ll be the one geeking out as close as possible to the front as I can get and then rehashing it all with friends at Liquor Lyle’s after. Event starts at 8pm.
Sunday 10/31:
If you’re out getting your last minute costume for Halloween put together, you might as well add ample amounts of hairspray, gel and tan in a can to your shopping cart. The MJF Young Leadership Jewlicious Bat Mitzvah is coming up on Nov 6th and you’ll need at least three applications of fake bronze to even make it to the finals in the costume contest. Need some ideas for where to start? Check out this nj.com post on how to get the look for less. Watch out for more on the party in the next edition of Alef List.
