In 2001, O’ Brother Where Art Thou and producer T-Bone Burnett won the Grammy for Best Album, beating out the likes of U2 and Bob Dylan. The album is credited with bringing bluegrass and blues back to the main stage and has inspired everyone involved with “Up From the Delta.”
Berek Awend of The Fattenin’ Frogs sums up the impact of the album and the movie, “‘O Brother Where Art Thou introduced me to the roots of American music. It made me dig deeper and learn about the roots of blues, country, gospel and bluegrass. For a Jewish kid from St. Louis Park, these were topics that required a guide. The Coen Brothers and “O Brother [Where Art Thou] were the guides that provided a common thread to find people to play music with and play music for.”
Doors open at 7pm, show at 8pm. Tix are $10. Note that the show was originally going to be at the Loring Theater, but the location has changed.

I love bluegrass because nothing sounds better than a mandolin. And no matter the topic of the song, which often is a bit dark, it makes me want to dance!
Bluegrass is the music of the American people. Whenever I listen to bluegrass, I can hear the ethnic music of all the people who immigrated to America and am amazed at the similarities in that music that allow them all to be blended together in something that sounds so good.
I love Bluegrass Music because its SOULFUL!
With all that stomping, plucking, and thumping, it’s the American equivalent of Klezmer–a great way to power up!
I love bluegrass because it’s upbeat, speaks to the positive aspects of America, and has it’s roots in traditional Celtic music.
My daughter, a newbie to violin, asked her music instructor what the difference is between the violin and the fiddle. Her instructor said, “The strangs!” We love the strangs!
Um, because it’s AWESOME? My introduction to the genre was through klezmer greats like Hank Sapoznik and Andy Statman, both of whom started out as serious bluegrass musicians. You can’t match that kind of energy!
I love bluegrass music because it makes me tap my feet and bop my head! The rhythm and the sounds just make me want to move!
I grew up in Alabama and bluegrass reminds me of my great grandparents. Grandpa Oli used to play music for me and my sister while we danced around the livingroom. I LOVE bluegrasss!
Bluegrass makes me happy!
I love bluegrass music because it’s emotionality. It’s an art form that so authentically comes from deep in the soul, and can really viscerally move the listener. O brother where art thou is truly one of the best soundtracks of all time.
