“And on the sixth day of Hanukkah, TC Jewfolk gave to me….”
FREE Tickets to Yemen Blues!
(Are you singing that? I was. Of course.)
[Eds Note: FREE TICKETS NO LONGER AVAILABLE]Mark your calendars for Thursday, January 5th at 7:30pm. Yemen Blues, the Middle Eastern jazz/funk/blues nine-member band founded by two Israelis (as they describe it in their video below, they just got an amazing group of musicians together, kept jamming, and have been jamming ever since), is coming to the Cedar Cultural Center in Minneapolis for their Midwestern premiere (take that, Chicago!).
It’s going to be a rockin’ night (if you don’t believe me, watch their video and try not to groove in your seat). The event is graciously sponsored by some of our fav Jewish orgs on both sides of the River (St. Paul JCC , United Jewish Fund and Council of St. Paul, the Israel Center of the Minneapolis Jewish Federation, Sabes JCC and the Howard B. and Ruth F. Brin Jewish Arts Endowment Fund), and, of course, TC Jewfolk.com!
Did I also mention that you can buy one of TC Jewfolk’s awesome new “Ya, sure… Jew Betcha” shirts (pictured here) at this event FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER? And just for $5?
So… tickets are $20 in advance or $25 at the door ($5 discount if you’re a student -luckies). Get Tickets by calling 612-338-2674 or online at the Cedar Cultural Center. Tickets are also available at the St. Paul JCC (651-698-0751) and Sabes JCC (952-381-3499).
But…. you don’t have to buy tickets if you win a pair of free ones from TC Jewfolk, now do you?
So how do you win our pair of free tickets to this awesome show? Just answer this question in the comments below before midnight on Tuesday, December 27th. We’ll throw in a free TC Jewfolk “Ya, sure… Jew Betcha” t-shirt to the winner as well.
What’s the coolest concert you went to in the Twin Cities in 2011?
There’s no right answer. We’ll draw the winner randomly. Good luck! And free tickets or no, see you at the show!

I, sadly, didn’t go to any really cool concerts in 2011.
Jayke Orvis and the Broken Band
Matisyahu at the zoo!
Rock the garden was great. Atmosphere last month at the TCF Stadium was fun too! I’m looking forward to Yemen Blues.
Max Weinberg at the Dakota, Balkan Beat Box at the Cedar!
I saw John Legen and Sade in concert this year at the Target Center. And, I only paid $20 for the tickets because I got a great deal on Groupon!!
Punch Brothers!
I think the best concert I’ve been to so far this year was Beady Eye at First Ave. I really liked the show, but really liked the opening act, Black Box Revelation.
The coolest concert I went to was at my house where my family all sang Leonard Cohen’s Halleluyah to me for my birthday. Otherwise, the next coolest concert was the Blood on the Tracks outdoor concert at Wolf Park in St. Louis Park last August. It was almost as if Bob himself was there
The coolest concert I went to in 2011 was the Zimriah Festival at Beth El Synagogue. Wonderful combo of locals including Bruce Campbell, Tom Lieberman, Jeff Rudoy and everybody got up and sang.
I saw Socalled at the Cedar Cultural Center. First time seeing him perform and I’m glad I went!
PINK MINK on a boat on the Mississippi River (sponsored by the Current).
The coolest concert for me was a private one where Songstress Ariella previewed some of the music she was about to perform in a LA Concert. Now she is back in the Twin Cities and soon to sing in a Stillwater program on the 22nd of January.
The coolest concert of the year was Gillian Welch at the Fitzgerald Theater.
Brazilian singer Luisa Maita delivered a fantastic performance at the Dakota.
Blind Boys of Alabama at the Cedar.
p.s. does pity help in a blind drawing? I haven’t won anything in 10 years, and not even the $104 million power ball when I paid $4 for four tickets last week.
Keren Ann at the Cedar with Avishai Cohen.
I have not seen an cool concerts lately! Looking forward to seeing the Yemen Blues!
Osmo Vanska conducting the MN Orchestra’s Grammy winning Beethoven.
U2
The coolest concert I went to in 2011 was Sara Bareilles at the Minnesota Zoo. It was awesome!
